Adjectives, Halloween and Finally, A Smartboard!

We've been working on adjectives the past week or so and this activity was perfect for adjectives. My firsties loved drawing pictures of their friends. Then they had to write adjectives on the paper describing their friend. After hanging up the ones above I noticed either I have several kids with lots of freckles or the chicken pox are going around. Love these pics. Here are some more.

This is the bulletin board outside of my room. I got this idea from Kacey over at Doodlebugs Teaching. She had some of the best boards ( and products)>

Finally, we got a smartboard in our room. This kids were thrilled and so am I.  Now if any of you have any good programs to use on it please let me know.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day off ( if you have no school tomorrow due to Columbus Day).

Awesome Adjectives And It's Almost Over!

Okay, I haven't been on my blog or anyone else's blogs for quite some time now. I do have a good excuse, I am nearing the end of grad school and this coming week I start my LAST class (can you tell I'm anxious to be done?) Teaching full time, going to school, and dealing with a senior who needs to complete college applications all at the same time is, needless to say, exhausting!  Graduation from grad school is on December 15th at 3:00, but who's keeping track?! I truly feel like I haven't been doing all the fun activities in my own class this school year that I've always done. Come January, look out first graders, we'll be so busy doing awesome lessons and projects.  I wanted to post these pictures of the adjective unit we did. The firsties really liked doing this one and I think they got the hang of adjectives. As soon as I have a few free minutes I'll post more. So, thanks for stopping by.

Popcorn Adjectives, Yum, Yum!!

All my first graders ( and a lot of older kids in my school) know that popcorn is my favorite thing in the world to eat. I would pass up ice cream for popcorn. So when I saw this unit from Babblin Abbey over at the Inspired Apple I just had to have it. It was also good timing because we were going to be doing adjectives. We started by making microwave popcorn in the school kitchen and the smell permiated the whole school. The kids up on the second floor in the library could smell it. They knew exactly where it was coming from. Anyway, the kids really got the jist of adjectives with this wonderful project. If you are looking for an adjective activity this is perfect.
So, we are back from spring break and back in the swing of things. Usually we have break the week after Easter but since it's so late we decided to have it now and then have Good Friday and the day after Easter off. That'sfine with me because then it feels like a second break.
By the way, we still have the incubator and a dozen eggs. The kids can't wait for the eggs to hatch, which should be next Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
